The Superfeet Adapt Hike Max Insoles are an incredible addition to any hiking boot or shoe. With medium to high arch support and a flexible design that moves with your feet, you will surely have happy feet while hiking any trail!

What We Like

  • Great medium-high arch support with a deep heel
  • Incredibly comfortable and flexible with their patented adaptive comfort technology design
  • Feature an orthopedic design that helps reduce joint pain and feet fatigue
  • Dual foam layer for added comfort
  • Additional foam cushioning at the heel and ball of the foot
  • Durable and well-built design structure

What We Didn’t Like

  • While these insoles are wonderful, if we had to pick a flaw, it would be longevity. Honestly, this is simply based on Superfeets’ recommendation to replace the insoles every 12 months or 500 miles (whichever comes first). However, this is only really an issue if you are a frequent hiker, but chances are you want the best support possible to do all that hiking.. so replacing them every year is a small price to pay for happy feet!

Testing Superfeet Adapt Hike Max Insoles

To test out these insoles, we have been using them on a trail that we frequent a few times a week. We figured it would be easier to notice any initial differences, whether good or bad, using a familiar trail. Below, we have split up the features we feel are worth noting and made a side-by-side comparison of the previous insoles that came with my hiking boots.

Initial Impression & Side-By-Side Comparison

Now, bear with me, as my old insoles are notably in rougher shape as they are the original insoles from my current hiking boots. I admit it. I should have changed these out much sooner, as the insoles that come with hiking boots tend to be flimsy and do not provide enough cushion or support.

From the initial glance, we can already tell they will feel different than the previous insoles.

Some immediate standouts are the higher arch support, deeper heel, structured yet flexible feel and the additional cushions under the heel and ball area. This is incredibly important for hikers as a deep heel can help reduce the wear and tear on your feet while the high arch provides cushion and support, reducing foot fatigue and impact on your joints.

Medium-high arch support

We can’t say it enough: the arch support that these insoles have is impeccable. The medium to high arch support helps to reduce pain and injury while on the trails. They are meant for outdoor footwear, hiking boots and shoes. So, they may not feel great in your everyday sneakers, but that’s why Superfeet has a whole line of insoles designed for different activities and needs. Check out their insole fit finder here to find your perfect insole for other activities.

Comfort

To add comfort while keeping the structure support, Superfeet used their adaptive comfort technology that flexes with your foot paired with the aerolyte dual comfort foam layer and heel cushioning to create, in our opinion, the perfect insole for hikers.

The dual foam layer helps to support your foot by providing structure, stability and comfort, making it feel like you are walking on sunshine while maneuvering through any terrain. We have yet to experience any pain or aches since switching to these insoles.

To get a better feel of how these insoles felt without the cushioning of our hiking boots, we tested them indoors on the floor before putting them in our shoes. Immediately, we noticed they felt soft yet supportive. We could feel the foam cushion when we shifted our weight and lifted each foot off the ground.

Durability

As mentioned in the overview, durability could be an issue if you are an avid hiker who will hike more than 500 miles within a year. However, many insoles on the market only last around six months, so the fact that the Superfeet Adapt Hike Max Insoles last 12 months (or 500 miles) is actually quite impressive! We will update the durability after a few months of wear to test if the shape holds up for as long as stated.

As for the structure’s durability, these insoles have kept their shape and show no signs of cracking or breaking. General wear and tear are expected, but overall, the durability has been excellent for the first few wears.

Moisturewick

The last notable feature is the improved wicking, breathability and odour control. We’ve been testing these insoles in the middle of our Canadian winter, so breathability is important as we wear insulated socks. And we can confirm that they are breathable! We also conducted a water test to see if the water stayed on the insole or was quickly absorbed. Within seconds after putting water on the insole, it began to spread out and absorb into the insole. After 30 minutes of airdrying, we checked back, and they were completely dry.

How To Trim Superfeet Adapt Hike Max Insoles

Trimming your insoles correctly is important; once you cut too much, there is no going back. The best way to ensure you trim your insoles correctly is by taking out the insoles of your current hiking shoe and using them as a comparison for your Superfeet insoles. To do this, place the old insoles onto the new ones and trace around them to mark off a guideline of where you will trim.

Next, cut your insoles. We suggest you err on the side of caution here and only trim small amounts at a time, making sure not to trim past where you traced. After each trim, you should test the insoles by placing them into your shoes to see how they fit and feel. If they do not fit in comfortably, then continue to trim small increments as needed.

These insoles were pretty much a perfect match size-wise to my previous Columbia insoles, with the expectation of a bit extra on the sides. However, they fit nicely in my boots, so I did not end up cutting them (and neither did Arthur).

The Superfeet Adapt Hike Max Insoles are unisex and come in various sizes that can easily be trimmed to fit. For example, I am a US women’s size 7 and went with the size Women 6.5 – 8 | Men 5.5 – 7 (C), whereas Arthur is a size US Men’s 9 and went with the Women 8.5 – 10 | Men 7.5 – 9 (D).
